Who Can Get a Free NHS Flu Jab?

For the 2025/26 season, the NHS provides free vaccinations to those most likely to develop serious complications from the flu. You are likely eligible for a free jab if you are:

  • Aged 65 or over (including those who will be 65 by 31 March 2026).
  • Pregnant (at any stage of pregnancy).
  • Aged 18 to 64 with certain long-term health conditions, such as:
    • Respiratory conditions (e.g., asthma requiring a steroid inhaler, COPD).
    • Heart, kidney, or liver disease.
    • Diabetes or learning disabilities.
    • Weakened immune systems (due to disease or treatment like chemotherapy).A carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill.
  • A frontline health or social care worker.
  • Living in a residential or care home.

Please note: Eligibility is always confirmed during your consultation with our pharmacist.

If you do not fall into the NHS eligibility groups, you can still protect yourself and those around you. We offer a private flu jab for a small fee, providing the same high-standard vaccine used by the NHS.

The main adult vaccination programme begins in October, which is the optimal time to build immunity before winter. However, pregnant women can often be vaccinated from September.

Our private flu vaccination is competitively priced (typically between £15–£20). Please check with your local branch for the current season's exact pricing.

Yes, as long as you do not have a high temperature or feel very unwell. If you have a fever, it is best to delay the vaccination until you have recovered.

No. The injected flu vaccine given to adults contains inactivated (killed) virus, so it is impossible to catch the flu from the jab.
